The Director General of the Financial Services Commission, Mr. Claude Haylock, delivered opening remarks at the “Advanced Training in Blockchain, Digital Assets, and Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing: From the Crypto Ecosystem to Risk-Based Supervision” held on 21 May 2026 in Belize City.
In his address, the Director General highlighted the growing impact of digital assets and blockchain technology on the global financial system and underscored the importance of strengthening Belize’s institutional, technical, and regulatory capacity to effectively supervise emerging risks associated with digital finance.
The remarks also outlined Belize’s ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive digital assets regulatory framework grounded in international standards, proportional regulation, and robust AML/CFT safeguards. Emphasis was placed on the importance of education, inter-agency cooperation, and continuous supervisory training in supporting responsible innovation and maintaining financial integrity.
The training programme, organised with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Government of Canada, brings together regulators, law enforcement authorities, and financial sector stakeholders for advanced capacity-building in blockchain technology, digital assets supervision, and AML/CFT compliance.
