International Cooperation
The FSC cooperates with international and regional organisations in the global fight to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. As such, the FSC facilitates Belize’s membership and participation in the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF), the Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators (CGSR), and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
IOSCO The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) is the leading international policy forum for securities regulators and the global standard setter for financial markets regulation. It develops, implements, and promotes adherence to internationally recognized standards for financial markets regulation and works closely with other international organizations on the global regulatory reform agenda.
On May 20, 2024, the Commission was accepted as an associate member of the IOSCO. This milestone marked a significant step in fostering international cooperation in Belize’s financial services sector. By joining IOSCO, the Belize FSC reaffirms its commitment to adhering to international standards and best practices, thereby bolstering investor confidence, and promoting market integrity in Belize.
CGSR The Caribbean Group of Securities Regulators (CGSR) is a statutory body responsible for the regulation and oversight of investment funds, securities, and capital markets. The FSC’s membership in the CGSR serves as a pivotal forum for mutual exchange among member states, fostering cross-border information sharing on emerging risks and issues and jurisdictional capacity building for mutual collaboration and cooperation.
The FSC’s integration into the CGSR not only solidifies its position as a forward-thinking regulatory authority but also paves the path for collaborative advancements and underscores its dedication to elevating Belize’s securities regulation standards and its commitment to establish a robust regulatory environment for both consumers and investors.
