Supervision

The Financial Services Commission of Belize (“the FSC”) is responsible for the administration of the Securities Industry Act, 2021 (SIA). The FSC is vested with the responsibility and power to register and regulate securities activities in and from within Belize.

The FSC’s responsibilities include, but is not limited, to the following:

i) The registration and regulation of securities entities in/from Belize;

ii) The supervision and regulation of timely and relevant disclosure of information by securities entities in or from within Belize;

iii) The ongoing review, examination, and inspection of securities entities in or from within Belize.

A firm/individual can be registered for the below listed categories of securities activities. For an entity to be considered for registration, a complete application must be submitted, and the requirements set under the FCS’s Fit and Proper Criteria, SIA, Securities Industry Regulations 2023, and Economic Substance Act must be met.

  1.  Trading in securities (trading in securities as agent or principal)
  2.  Managing Securities
  3.  Providing investment advice
  4.  Arranging transactions in securities
  5.  Providing custodial services with respect to securities
  6.  Providing administration services with respect to securities
  7.  Recognition of professional fund
  8.  Registration of mutual fund
  9.  Appointment by a licensee/registrant of a Chief Executive Officer
  10.  Appointment by a licensee/registrant of a Compliance Officer
  11.  Appointment of a body corporate to provide compliance function services for and on behalf of a licensee/registrant
  12.  Securities Representative
  13. Recognition as an Approved Auditor (firm of accountants)
  14. Recognition as an Approved Auditor (individual account)
